±1±: Best Buy This is about as simple of a caller ID that you can get, usually simple is good, in this case I personally did not like it at all. Fristly the call that shows up on the caller id does not stop showing, the name and # just stay...that is not normal for caller id's. Also its light weight so its easy for it to fall, and in general its junky, I really was being nice to give it a 4 star, my feeling is that for less you can get much much better, and I am referring to the Bellsouth Caller ID with Call Waiting CI 43. The display is very clear and I can see it from a distance with the backlight on when the phone rings and when reviewing the call list.

It's great with the power supply and I only have a battery in for backup to save the memory if the power goes out. My previous one didn't have AC power and went through batteries way too often. I just noticed that the battery cover is pretty tight and I had to use a knife to pry it a bit to get it to open.

This is my second one. The first one is a few years old and still works just fine. I am ordering another one right after I get done with this review.

I bought two of these units in March 2003. I needed "Call Waiting Caller ID" capability and bought these units after an awful experience with Radio Shack's comparable product. I was immediately impressed by how much better these units worked, and indeed they do everything well. They even have a call timer (which I wasn't aware of). The only bad news is that I've had one of them fail. A few weeks ago it started complaining of low batteries, even though I'd put batteries in both units at the same time. Removing the batteries then putting them back in solved the problem for a week or two, but then the problem came back. Finally, the problem came back for good ... even new batteries couldn't solve it. Then the display went nutso, it started displaying the call counter even though the unit wasn't hooked up. It did that even after having no batteries in it for several days (I thought that might reset it). So I've sent the unit back to the company for repair (Texas). We'll see. The other unit continues to work fine. I like this unit well enough that I'm even considering buying a third one for another room ... and keeping my fingers crossed.

I bought this several years ago for my visually impaired aging mom. It has been well worth every penny and I paid an early higher price. I was able to program all the common callers and adapt as needed. Mom does not have to bother getting up and rushing to the phone any longer. I didn't realize how much I use it also until I had it unplugged temporarily. Works great, never had any quality issues...point is, it sits dusty in the corner and has performed flawlessly for years. To me, that is exactly what I want something like this to do.

We have always had a phone service that when on the phone and your call waiting clicked in it actually announced the name of the person calling, which was great. However, they recently removed that service and I went looking for a product that would let me know who was calling on the other line.. AND I FOUND IT... This works great, has LARGE LCD letters and backlight when a call comes in and it saves the calls. Now if I see who is calling and I'm on a call that cannot be interupted I don't have to worry about who was calling, because this little handy device tells me at the time the call comes in and saves the number for me to return it later. GREAT PRODUCT, wish it was slightly less in cost so I could have one near each phone I have in my house now. Hope they keep making this product, it is a great asset.

I purchased my Caller ID box at Target for $9.99. But, I had to return the first one I purchased because I could not open the battery compartment even though I used a screw driver. It was frozen shut. So, I went back to Target, returned it and bought another one and it opened fine. However, I noticed that the date on the back of the second one I bought showed 2006. The first one showed 2004. So, maybe try to avoid buying the 2004 version. I tried calling my home number and noticed that the display is large and readable. Although I have only had it one day, it seems to work just fine.

I bought this to replace my previous talking caller ID unit which would only talk the recorded name you did for each number.

This unit talks the number or the recorded name you do.

In my old ID unit the mass delete would not delete the numbers with a recorded name. This was logical since you want to always know these names.

In this unit the mass delete does all including the ones you did a recorded name. The workaround is to delete each incoming call you do not want to remember. This is just a few per day so is only a minor inconvenience. You have to be careful to just tap the delete key or it will delete all calls.

Initially I really like the ClassCo caller id box. Having the voice announce the phone number is very convenient. When the phone rings, you don't have to stop whatever you are doing and go to the phone to read a name/number. The voice announce lets you hear who is calling.

Unfortunately after just over a month, the caller ID box no longer works. The phone company has been out and determined that the box's wiring is bad and affecting phone service.

±1±: Best Buy First of all, buyers should be aware that there is a version 2 that became available early Jan 2010. The major upgrades over the original model include compatability with internet-based (VoIP) phones, an increase in the "reject" list from 20 to 70, and the ability to reject an entire area code (like 888) using wildcards. Although the controller has 3 lists: list "A" (always allow), list "B" (allow certain times of day) and list "R" (reject these), I only bought the controller to reject frequent annoyance callers (list "R"). The controller simply supresses the ring on numbers entered into this "R" list. Any devices installed between the "wall" and the controller - like an answering machine - will operate as before. Any devices installed "after" the controller - like your phone - will not receive the ring tone or caller ID. The caller ID will only be recorded on the controller itself. I personally do not want to hear my answering machine's greeting when receiving "rejected " calls. Therefore, I place both my phone and answering machine after the product. In this configuration, the caller will hear the phone ring until they themselves hang up. I don't hear anything.
In order to prevent your other extensions from ringing, some people turn off these ringers. That's not very useful in a larger home. I have voice over internet cable and so I simply installed the controller immediately after my modem which suppresses the ringing for rejected callers to all the phones in my house. It might be more difficult to find the entrance point for landline phone service. One limitation that I have not read before was the inability of the controller to suppress messages on a phone company or ISP-based message answering service. Even though most annoyance callers do not leave messages, their equipment seems to produce a tone which is captured by many answering machines as a brief message. So if you use a phone company or cable-based answering service, you may get alerts when you only have these false messages.
I only had the controller a short time. I first rejected 800, 866, 877 & 888 numbers. When an annoyance call comes in, I later retrieve the caller ID on the controller and set it to the "R" list. Good luck! on Sale!

I was very excited about this new phone system and all the wonderful features. I waited for weeks, then rush on the internet. Having use it for few days, I am quite deceived:

- The sound is so-so, it is sometime hard to understand people talking. Setting it to high make a slight "hum"

- The handset display is nearly unreadable, too bright with too thin fonts.

- Setting the phone is quite complicated (as compare to my former Panasonic)

- There a lot of frill options, but some other lacking (setting the display light for instance).

- At every power failure, the answering machine to be reset (how modern!),

- The speakerphone sound is "humming"

So, it is far from the description on the box.

I'd rather go for a 5,8 technology and another ... and wished I had buy it at Wal-Mart, so I could return it hassle free. But I didn't.

I first heard this in my son's house and I knew I had to have it. The only reason this does not get 5 stars is the brief time that it gives you to record your announcement of the person calling. But, this would not stop me from buying another one. Keep your recording "reasonably" short and you will have no problem.

±1±: Best Buy After wrestling with the very poorly designed battery compartment door, I got the ID unit hooked up to my phone and answering machine. I called the phone company to tell them to subscribe me to caller ID service and they said it would take 'til the end of the day. But two hours later, when my husband phoned, the ID unit clearly displayed his name and number. I've had consistent good functioning ever since from this ugly (c'mon, why do so many electronics have to be made of *white plastic*?!) but durable unit. Multiple times I've even leaned over to erase logged calls while washing dishes, splashing water on this unit and it has taken the abuse and continued to function. I'm unsure it's worth the /month the phone company is charging me for caller ID service, but that is totally independent of the quality, ease of use and reliability of the unit itself. on Sale!
